Mumps Outbreak in Arkansas

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I have been contacted by the Izard County Department of Health about a recent mumps outbreak in Arkansas.  If you receive a letter from school this week, your child either needs to be updated on their immunizations, or I need an updated copy of their immunizations at school. Everyone will be given until December 1 to get up to date on their vaccines or they will not be allowed to come back to school until those vaccines are completed.  Also, if your child has not received vaccines due to an exemption, that exemption must be renewed yearly.  So if your child is behind on their exemption after Dec. 1, they will not be allowed to return to school until that exemption is up to date.  You can get these vaccines at the Izard County Health Unit.  They have ordered extra supplies and agreed to stay late if needed, to meet the demand.  If you have any question about your child's immunizations, you can call the Izard County Department of Health at 870-368-7790.

Thank you,

Jocelyn Walker, LPN
