Counselor

The mission of the Calico Rock High School counseling department is to assist students in the process of growing in personal, social, educational, and career development and to be a liaison between the students, faculty, administration, and community.

Role of the High School Counselor:

The role of the High School Counselor is:

To assist students:

  • Developmentally, to prevent problems from occurring
  • In understanding their abilities and limitations
  • In learning decision making and interpersonal skills
  • In gaining optimum benefits from their school experience
  • In developing skills in getting along with others in the classroom

To assist parents:

  • In learning about their child's growth and development
  • In appreciating their child's abilities, limitations, and progress in school
  • To encourage a home atmosphere for emotional security and personal growth

To assist school staff:

  • To understand and meet individual needs
  • In understanding children and their behavior
  • In initiating classroom guidance activities for greater understanding of self and others
  • In providing special help for students when it is needed
