Student of the Week!

Blake Moody- 9th grade

Blake is an exceptional student. He is always the first student to complete an assignment (correctly I might add!)  Blake is also a talented athlete and seems to balance his classwork with athletics very well.  He has maintained the highest grade point average in my Criminal Justice class this entire year!  Keep up the great work Blake!

Introducing our SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!

Today, we will begin highlighting our awesome senior class.  We will be spreading them over a 3 week period so keep a lookout for your favorite senior!

It has been my great pleasure to get to be your class sponsor since 7th grade and the memories that have come along with that.  You were my first group and have really all become my kids! I have great hope that all of you will accomplish awesome things in the future and I can't wait to see it. As you transition into adulthood, know that you always have a friend in me. Even though the year ended abruptly, Mrs. Moser and I have enjoyed the smaller trips we got to take with you guys this year-each ending of course with good food! We hope that we are able to make up the things you guys are missing out on.  You guys rock and we love you and are proud of you!!

Senior Spotlight

Senior: Kaylan Snell

What is your favorite memory from Calico Rock High School?
Every minute at Calico Rock High School has been a blessing, and I carry several memories with me, I can't simply pick a favorite.

What are you most looking forward to when the quarantine is lifted?
Being able to go outside and enjoy time with my friends.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan on going to cosmetology school and becoming a hair stylist/beautician.

Teacher Memory: Ms. Brown
When I heard the choir program was getting a new student last school year, I became concerned as to how adding a new student would change the class dynamic of our tight-knit group - but Kaylan fit right in! She instantly became "one of us," sharing in our love for music, memes, and cats.  Kaylan was a joy to have in class. She is hard-working, thoughtful, and very silly!

What is your favorite memory from Calico Rock High School?
First round 2019 Basketball State Tournament.

What are you most looking forward to when the quarantine is lifted?
Spending as much time as I can with my closest classmates before we all move on to the next chapter of our lives.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to join the Air Force.

Teacher Memory: Mrs. Hodges
Since the first day I met him, Joe has kept me in a serious laughing stage.  From his most memorable demonstration speech to his weekly vocabulary lessons for me, I can't help but laugh with him...all the while knowing that if someone needed help, he'd move heaven and earth to make sure he/she got the help that was needed.  I waited a long time to give Joe an award in school, but the truth is--he deserved it long ago. I'm so proud to be able to say that maybe I had a small part in the young man I watched him grow into. God Bless You, Joe! Big Hugs, Ms. Jones (OG style)

A message from Supt. Skidmore

March, 7, 2020

Good Morning,

Yesterday the governor cancelled onsite instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  This means that education will continue through the Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) that we have been using since March 16, 2020.  We will gladly continue to provide meals and assistance with the AMI packets.  If you have any questions, call your teacher or principal and they will be happy to assist.  Your support and patience has been tremendous and we appreciate everything our community is doing to help in this time of crisis.

Please let us know of any children 18 years of age or younger in need of meals so we can add them to our list.  We deliver breakfast and lunch each day beginning around 10:00 am.  The number of meals per day has been around 375 and continues to increase as the need arises.  Teachers, staff, bus drivers and the cooks have been eager to help so if you have a chance, tell them thank you.

We will have a graduation ceremony as soon as it is safe to do so.  We want to celebrate the successes of our seniors & give them the recognition they deserve.

Remember to be Pirate strong and follow the CDC guidelines by washing your hands, maintaining a social distance of 6' or more and self-isolate if necessary.

Go Pirates!!!

Sincerely,

Jerry Skidmore, Superintendent

Calico Rock School District
