Student of the Week!

Joseph Grigg- 12th grade

Joe has been an exemplary classmate and student.  He turns his work in with a smile, and he is not afraid to offer or receive help.  He has steadily maintained his grades while being an active and engaged member of his senior class.  I am so proud of all his accomplishments throughout the year, and Student of the Week is one more feather in his cap.  Great Work, Joe!

Student of the Week!

Zachary Crawford- 12th grade

Zachary is an outstanding student with a strong work ethic. In my classroom, Zachary is always prepared for class and ready to work. He has also proven himself as a leader in the classroom and as the President of our FFA Chapter. I believe Zachary exemplifies what it means to be a Calico Rock Pirate and is very deserving of the Student of the Week Award.

Congratulations CRHS Welders

This past week Calico Rock High School welding students had the opportunity to compete at the Missouri Welding Institute. They went up against 193 students from six states for the chance to win a scholarships and tuition at MWI. Only 53 students competing this year completed the required tasks and made it to judging. Calico Rock had three students make the cut. Those students were Zachary Crawford, Weston DeLoach, and Clayton Thompson. Zachary Crawford was also the only student from Arkansas to place in the top 10 and finished 8th overall. This is only the third year that Calico has competed in this event. Calico Rock is proud to offer several vocational opportunities, including certifications from the American Welding Society in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding. We are excited for what the future holds for these young men! The Calico Rock FFA would like to thank you all for your support. Fundraising through our alumni group helped purchase additional welders and equipment. Once again thank you and congratulations to are welders!

Congratulations to the Robotics Team

The Calico Rock Robotics Team competed on Saturday, February 1 in the Northark Robotics VRC Challenge. The tournament was held at the Pioneer Pavilion on the South campus of Northark College. Sixteen teams from twelve schools competed in the VEX Robotics Competition hoping to earn a spot in the Arkansas State Championship to be held March 7 at Arkansas Tech University.

The Calico Rock Team clinched the "Tournament Champions" title as well as the "Excellence Award". Each title alone earns an invitation to the State Championship Tournament as well as an invitation to the 2020 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship! In addition to these coveted awards the team was awarded the "Design Award" and the "Judges Award". The team was then further recognized by the judges with the "Inspire Award".
Mrs. Hiers said "This VEX competition has been very humbling. We have competed in three VEX tournaments this season. It hasn't been easy but each tournament taught us something new and each time the team has held their heads up and walked away wiser. All those experiences brought us to where we are now. I am so very proud of these students."
The Arkansas State Championship will host forty high school teams where ten lucky teams will be invited to the World Championship to be held in Louisville, Kentucky from April 22-25. For further information contact Mrs. Hiers at Calico Rock High School.

Senior Night

The high school will host Senior Night on Tuesday, February 4 to honor those Seniors who will be graduating that have participated in sports.  The ceremony will take place at the high school during the ballgame against Western Grove.

Student of the Week!
Clayton Smyser- 12th grade
Clayton is an attentive learner who uses his time wisely, working hard while in the classroom. Clayton always knows what assignments need to be done, and he is often working ahead in his online Agribusiness Management course.  Clayton comes to class prepared and, when he needs help, he is not afraid to ask me or a classmate.  To use military jargon, Clayton is a "fire and forget" type of student - he works independently without my having to frequently check on him, his work will be complete, and he does well on his tests.  Clayton is always polite and respectful, and I enjoy having him in my classroom!
