Buses have just left the school for delivery!

The buses have just left to make meal deliveries.  Please keep watch and be ready to receive your meals.

Attention All Virtual Students

Any 9th-11th grade student that is enrolled in a Virtual Arkansas class must continue work on that class in order to receive credit for this semester.  If the student has internet, then they will continue to work in the course online.  VA has removed the lock-down browser and password requirements to allow students to work from home.  If the student doesn't have internet, then there will be paper work that can be completed instead.  Please let us know if you need a paper copy of VA work.

Calico Rock High School Students

There will be a drop box at the front doors for you to return the AMI packets you currently have. Please return those anytime Wednesday through Sunday this week.  It is located outside so you can return your packets any time during the day or night.

There are some students who has chosen to have paper AMI packets through April 17th.  If you are a student who receives meals on the bus, we will deliver the AMI packets by bus with your Wednesday meals. If you do not receive meals daily, you will need to come to the high school and pick up your packet.

The high school will be open on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for students or parents to pick packets up.  We are staying late to accommodate people who get off work later.  Thursday and Friday the office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Please make arrangements to come and pick up your packet.

All of us here at CRHS have been working tirelessly to prepare for this new way of instruction.  This is new territory for us.  Please be patient.  Please stay safe.  We will get through this. Call, text or email if there is anything we can help you with.

COVID-19 Update 3-13-20 #2

COVID-19 Update 3-13-20 #2

A press conference was held Thursday 3-13-20 at 1:30 pm by Governor Asa Hutchinson.  Based the guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control it is NOT recommend to close schools unless a case of the virus has been confirmed in that community.  The Governor has faith that the people of Arkansas will use good judgement in these matters and follow the protocol recommended by the CDC.

Johnny Key, Commissioner of Education says that based on CDC guidance, schools are the safest place for students to be unless they have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in their community.  He said, It would not be prudent to interrupt the educational process where some students are receiving services in addition to education such as meals and mental health services that they depend on daily.  Therefore, the focus is on keeping schools open at this time.

The total presumptive positive cases in Arkansas as of  (3-13-20) is up to 9 and all of those cases are in the Little Rock area.

WASH Cancelled March 18

Attention WASH Parents and Students!!

WASH will be cancelled for this week, March 18th. Many officials have urged the cancelation of organized group functions in order to help prevent the movement and/or  contamination of the COVID-19. WASH has more than 40 volunteers with a wide range of  ages.  We feel that it is our responsibility to consider the health of  everyone that participates or that volunteers. With spring break the following week, this will allow 2 weeks for our staff to clean and disinfect our facility.

Hopefully,  after spring break,  the threat will be diminished quite considerably.  If not, we will reevaluate the situation then.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Evelyn Bishop
WASH Coordinator

COVID-19 update 3-13-20

Calico Rock School District would like to inform everyone that school districts in Arkansas have been granted 5 additional AMI days. We have used 3 of our original 5, therefore we now have 7 days to use. We hope they will not be needed.
However, on Thursday afternoon the Department of Education advised the school districts in Saline, Grant, Pulaski and Jefferson counties to close in response to the six presumptive cases of COVID-19 in central Arkansas. If advised to close, the Calico Rock School District will continue to offer educational opportunities to our students through Alternative Methods of Instruction.

The faculty, staff and administration would like to thank the parents of our students for their cooperation and understanding in these difficult circumstances.

Remember:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.

Health Update on COVID-19

Student health and wellness is a top priority at Calico Rock Schools.  We regularly monitor announcements from the World Health Organization and the CDC. We are aware that COVID-19 is presumptively now in Arkansas, and our administrators and the school nurse are also monitoring announcements from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Arkansas Department of Health, and the Governor's office.

All employees are taking precautions to disinfect their classrooms and work spaces in order maintain a healthy environment for our students.

As parents, you can help by reminding your children on a regular basis to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water, remind them to keep their hands away from their faces, and explain to them the importance of not sharing personal items or food and drinks.

Children are less likely to be affected by COVID-19; however, they can be carriers and spread the virus to older adults and to those with weakened immune systems who can be adversely affected.

When students feel better, they learn better, and we want our Pirates to stay healthy so they can continue to take advantage of all the opportunities we have to offer.

Thank you for being a part of our Pirate family!

Superintendent

FBLA Fundraiser

On Thursday, March 5 my FBLA students will be serving at 🍕 Pizza Inn 🍕 in Mtn. Home. In April, I will be taking 25 students to State FBLA competitions in Little Rock. These students have competed & placed at districts and have worked very hard to prepare for their competitions but as you can imagine it will be an expensive trip taking this many students for a two day trip in LR. For the past three years, we have had students qualify to compete at the National level and we hope to do that again this summer- BUT first we have to make it through state! I am super excited for this experience- I honestly cannot tell you the amount of growth I have seen this experience gives my students! I have seen their confidence & presentation skills absolutely soar because of FBLA competitions! Come out to Pizza Inn 🍕 on March 5th and enjoy some great food and wonderful, friendly service-we would love to serve you! These Future Business Leaders of America will thank you greatly!! If you cannot make it but would like to make a donation, please contact me!
